When I talk with other Christians I realise that some do not see our Lord and Saviour as I do. The Bible pictures God as our Creator. It pictures God as the Creator of the Earth and of the Universe. Yet this seems to be a problem for some Christians and their definition of God is that of a powerful but limited deity!
A view of God that limits His abilities must restrict people from believing that God is capable of helping them with their problems in life.
Genesis 1 shows God as a Creator God.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
But some Christians, including the Catholic church itself, see this as a fable, a story for the uneducated and 'simple' people of those times. I have two points to consider regarding this. The first is a question: Why include Genesis 1 in the Bible at all?
When the various books of the Bible were selected the people were not, in the main, illiterate. There were well-educated scholars around. There was no need for made up stories to be added to the well established texts that the Jewish nation had used for many years.
The second consideration is that it would be counter productive to include the Genesis 1 textif if this was not seen as a genuine part of the Scriptures.
It would be obvious to people that if some of the Bible was false then the rest of it had no credibility either! Instead there are references throughout the Bible to Genesis 1.
2 Timothy 1:9 who has saved us and called us to a holy life - not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,
Mark 10:6 But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.'
Matthew 19:4 "Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female,'
2 Peter 3:4 They will say, "Where is this 'coming' he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation."
Revelation 4:11 "You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being."
Revelation 10:6 And he swore by him who lives for ever and ever, who created the heavens and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it, and the sea and all that is in it, and said, "There will be no more delay!
There is a way of presenting God's Grace that many Christians use as an illustration. They picture a wall where a line is drawn one foot above the floor level. The area below the line represents us, the nicest and best amongst us are towards the top of this area, and the worst of us are towards the bottom.
But the line that represents God is thousands of miles up in the sky! The difference between the worst and the best of us is insignificant when we are compared to God. We are all sinners in the eyes of God but His Grace is available to all!
Yet many strong and faithful Christians cannot accept that our God is big enough to Genesis 1 to be absolutely correct. If God was not able to create the Universe and everything in it in then He would not be God!.
In the Old Testament days people looked at the skies and saw a myriad of stars. They did not appreciate the vast distances to these stars. They did not have Hubble to show them how large the Universe actually is and how many billions of stars exist.
But knowing more about the size of the Universe should not cause a problem for Christians? The more that we learn about the complexity of DNA shows us the impossibility of it happening by mere chance. The larger and more complex the Universe, the more impossible the Hypothesis of Evolution becomes.
How can anyone seriously believe that something as huge as our Universe with the huge variety of life on earth being composed of infinitely complex DNA, could have occurred by random chance? Yet some do! And they believe that evolution is absolutely true despite having no scientific evidence of any sort to back it up!
The Hypothesis of Evolution sounds like a religion to me, and one that is clearly not Christian! So is evolutionary theory just another alternative religion to keep people away from Salvation through Christ?
When one sees the anti-Christian stance by many evolutionists and the way that many evolutionists publicly attack Christianity rather than explain their religion, it is quite clear that Christians should be careful not to get caught up with the theory of evolution.
God is big enough to have created the Universe any way He wanted. Genesis 1 explains how He chose to do it. So don't be worried about the theory of evolution. Know what evolutionists are saying and understand how they attack Christianity. We have an answer to the other religions. Evolution is a religion so be prepared to answer their converts!
